Less is More Angel 467 and Complementary Colors And Shapes Angel 468

With this Angel I decided to think about the concept of less is more.  I added less Angel and surrounded it with more light.  this makes for a more relaxed feel to this painting.

Again thinking of design, I used complementary colors and shapes to add texture and dimension to this painting.  Placing the wings of the Angel just out side the inner edges of the green boarder adds the illusion of depth, the Angel appears in front of the green border.

And for complementary shapes, the rounded shapes of the wings and the head of the Angel contrast against straight line of the border.

Also the soft inner edge of the boarder is in contrast to the hard shape of the Angel's wings and head.  This creates a difference in textures.

As with all of these paintings the principles of visual art are still important.  And with every painting I strive to use the basic principles of art.
